What is the Finnish market?

The Finnish market primarily refers to companies listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange (Nasdaq Helsinki) and the Finnish fixed-income market. In a broader sense, it also includes unlisted companies, the real estate market and other investment alternatives in Finland. These markets are characterised by a strong technology and manufacturing sector, traditional forest and paper industry and stable financial sector operators.

The Finnish economy is an open, international and strongly export-driven one. Both large global companies, such as Nokia and UPM-Kymmene, and promising, innovative growth companies operate in the market. Some of the benefits of the Finnish market include high transparency, a stable business environment and a strong culture of innovation.

Finland as an investment

When you invest in the Finnish market, you can benefit from a stable and predictable operating environment, a high level of innovation and the good governance and transparency of Finnish companies. Investing in Finland also has the added benefit of avoiding currency risk and knowing the market.

You should, however, keep in mind a few challenges. The Finnish market is relatively small, which means that trading volumes may be lower than in larger markets. Finland’s economy is dependent on developments in the global economy, and investments are concentrated in a limited number of sectors. Some of the most well-known Finnish companies include Nokia, Nordea, Neste, Kone, UPM-Kymmene and Sampo.

The Finnish market gives you the opportunity to invest in familiar domestic companies, but you should also include international investments to achieve a balanced portfolio.
