Enjoy the added flexibility provided by a credit card

Credit cards can help you spread the cost of your purchases. When you pay with a Nordea credit card, you get an interest-free payment period of 30 days on average with no charges. This means that you won’t incur any extra charges if you pay off your credit card balance in full within 30 days.

You can pay off your credit balance in full whenever you like or repay it in monthly instalments. The credit card perks will remain valid even if you pay off your credit balance right after you have made the purchase. Alternatively, you can make the set minimum monthly payment and repay your credit balance in smaller instalments. In this case, you will have to pay the agreed interest rate and an account management fee, which will be added to your credit card invoice.

Example: Buying a new washing machine

You buy a new washing machine with credit on 1 April. The due date on the credit card invoice is the 15th of each month and the invoicing period is from 25 March to 26 April. As you purchased the item during the invoicing period, you have until 15 May to pay off your credit card balance with no interest or charges.

Alternatively, you can pay for the washing machine in instalments. You will receive your credit card invoice in Nordea Mobile and Netbank. The invoice states the minimum monthly payment you have to make. You can always opt for paying more than the minimum amount to reduce the amount of interest and fees you’ll have to pay.

Protection for your purchases and travels

When you use a credit card to pay for items and services, you get an extra layer of protection in the form of credit card insurance and consumer protection.

Nordea credit cards come with useful insurance. When you pay with the credit facility of your card, you may be entitled to travel insurance for trips abroad and Product Safety Insurance which protects larger items you buy for your home, depending on which card you have.

All purchases you make with a credit card include protection against the seller’s breaches of contract as laid down in the Finnish Consumer Protection Act. This means that you’re entitled to apply for a refund if item you paid for is not delivered, for instance.

Example: Booking a package holiday

You’re looking to go on a package holiday abroad with your family and you have a Nordea Gold card. When you pay at least 75% of your total travel and accommodation costs with the credit facility of your card, your whole family is covered by travel insurance for the duration of the trip.

The holiday provider will first charge you a reservation fee, which you pay with credit.  When you get the final invoice, you should also pay it with credit to ensure you’re eligible for the travel insurance. As an example, the insurance policy will cover the cancellation of your trip if one of your family members falls ill and can’t travel.

When you pay with credit, you also qualify for protection under the Finnish Consumer Protection Act. You can seek a refund with us as the card issuer if the holiday provider goes bankrupt, for example.

Enjoy credit card perks also when making mobile or online payments

When you use your card’s credit facility to pay online or in mobile payment apps, you get the same perks as when paying with your physical credit card. So you can pay the way you want.

Mobile payments are a handy way to pay for groceries and online purchases alike. Simply add your card to your phone or smartwatch and pay on the go. If you want to pay with the credit facility of your combination card, you can add the credit side of your card to mobile payment apps, such as Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Mobile payments are a secure way to pay online without having to worry about someone stealing your card details. A virtual version of your card is created in the payment app and its information is kept secure. When you use an app to pay online, your card details are not disclosed to the merchant.

Example: Buying a lamp from an online shop

You are buying a lamp from an online shop. The shop allows you to use a credit transfer, credit card or Apple Pay to pay for your purchase. You have added the credit facility of your Nordea Gold card to Apple Pay, which means that you can pay for the lamp online without having to dig up or enter your credit card details.

Although you used Apple Pay to pay for the lamp, you’ll enjoy the same credit card perks as with paying with the physical card. As an example, if the lamp gets damaged in a month, it will be covered by the Product Safety Insurance included in your Nordea Gold card. The insurance policy is valid for 180 days from the date of purchase and covers purchases exceeding 100 euros.
