Top 5 most frequently asked questions
- When will the student loan be paid to my account?
If you need a new student loan or an increase on your current loan, you must apply for it through Nordea Mobile or Netbank. You will need a state guarantee decision for the student loan from Kela. You can choose to draw down your student loan for each academic year either in instalments or in one go. You need to apply for a student loan separately for each academic year.
We may sometimes be busier than usual and therefore it may take us longer than normal to process student loan applications.
Once you have received an approved loan decision and selected automatic drawdowns, the loan amount granted to you will be automatically paid to your account on the drawdown dates determined by Kela in the autumn and spring terms. If the first drawdown date determined by Kela has passed, your loan will usually be paid to your account on the same day, in the afternoon.
- How can I get banking services for my child?
You can set up banking services, such as a current account, debit card and online banking credentials, for your underage child by filling in our online application. Both of the child’s guardians must consent to opening the banking services. A single parent with sole custody can set up banking services for a minor without the other parent’s approval.

It is possible to add e-identification, which is a form of strong electronic identification, to your child’s online banking credentials. This allows your child to log in to various services provided by third parties, such as the HSL ticket app or Kela’s e-service. E-identification can be added to a child’s online banking credentials separately by booking an appointment at a Nordea branch. As a general rule, the child must be at least 10 years old.

- Why haven't I received my tax refund in my account?
Tax refunds will be paid on 3 July, 4 August, 3 September, 3 October, 3 November or 3 December. You can see the date of your tax refund on your tax decision.
The tax refunds are paid into your bank account if the Tax Administration knows your valid account number. If you can’t see the refund on your account, we recommend checking your account again later, as the payments are made on that day and it may take a while for them to come through. Your tax refund payment date may have also been postponed if you supplemented your tax declaration after the initial decision, for example.

If you haven’t provided your account number to the Tax Administration, you will receive a money order for your tax refund. Tax refunds paid through money orders also have different payment dates. Once you have received a notification of a money order, you can cash your tax refund using several alternative means.
