What are authorisation holds?

Authorisation holds are always related to card payments. A card payment is usually registered first as an authorisation hold before actually being charged to your account. The authorisation hold ensures that your account has sufficient funds available to pay for your purchase.

An authorisation hold usually lasts for 10 to 30 days. During this time, you can’t use the held amount even though it has not been debited from your account yet. The authorisation hold will fall off once the vendor has settled the payment or the authorisation hold expires. If the authorisation hold expires, the money will be available to you again.
