What is a payment limit?

A payment limit is a feature in Nordea Mobile and Netbank that lets you set a daily limit for payments from your accounts. It’s designed to make payments more secure and give you greater control over your money. 

We have set an overall maximum limit for all of our customers but you can decide to set a lower limit for yourself. You can check your current payment limit in Nordea Mobile or Netbank and lower it to a level that suits you.

  • Your payment limit determines how much you can pay from your accounts in a single day.
  • By lowering it, you can prevent large sums from being transferred from your account by mistake or as a result of a scam.
  • The limit applies to euro-denominated transfers in Finland and other countries within the Single Euro Payments Area. It does not affect card payments, transfers between your own accounts or recurring payments.
Set a daily payment limit

What is a good payment limit?

Set a payment limit that matches the amount you typically spend in a single day. For security reasons, it’s best to keep the limit as low as possible. If you need to make a larger purchase, you can temporarily increase your limit in Nordea Mobile or Netbank.

How can I manage my payment limit?

You can check and adjust your payment limit in our digital services. Any changes you make will be applied immediately after you have confirmed them with your Nordea ID app or device. If you want to increase your limit beyond the maximum amount we have set for all customers, please contact us.

Our Customer Service is open Mon-Fri 8.00–18.00 in English and 8.00–20.00 in Finnish and Sat-Sun 10.00–16.00 in Finnish (daily banking services only).

In Nordea Mobile:

  1. Log in to Nordea Mobile.
  2. On the Overview tab, select Payments and e-invoices and then Payment limit.
  3. Here you can see your payment limit and how much you have spent for the day.
  4. If you change your payment limit, remember to confirm the change with your Nordea ID app.

The payment limit feature is available from app version 4.32 onwards.

In Nordea Netbank:

  1. Log in to Nordea Netbank.
  2. Select Payments and then Payment limit.
  3. Here you can see your payment limit and how much you have spent for the day.
  4. If you change your payment limit, remember to confirm the change with your Nordea ID app or device.

Temporary increase to your payment limit

Need a higher payment limit for a short time? You can set an expiry date for the higher limit, after which it will automatically return to the previous level. This is a convenient option for larger purchases, such as buying a car.

Safety tips

  • Keep your payment limit as low as possible for security reasons.
  • Only increase the limit when absolutely necessary.
  • If a payment is rejected because of the limit, increase the limit and make the payment again by copying the original payment as a new one.
