- What is a LEI?
A LEI (Legal Entity Identifier) is a 20-character alphanumeric code used to uniquely identify companies participating in the global financial markets. The LEI system was developed with the purpose of creating a worldwide reference information system that would assign a unique identifier to every legal person engaging in financial transactions in every country.
The EU has issued new regulations to ensure that all corporations trading in financial instruments can be identified consistently. If your company does not have an LEI, it cannot continue to trade in the most common financial instruments in the EU. Here is what you should do:
1. Obtain an LEI for your company from an authorised issuer.
2. Inform Nordea of the LEI. (By email to: lei@nordea.comOpens new window. Write the name, business ID and LEI of your company in the message.)
3. Once Nordea verifies the LEI, your company can resume trading in financial instruments.
