IBAN

What is an IBAN?

IBAN ( International Bank Account Number) is an acronym international bank account number. IBAN has been used in international payments since 2001. IBAN will be used also in domestic payments step by step.

The account number will remain the same, but the format of presenting account number will be changed gradually. You should learn to recognise the account number in both the national and the IBAN format, as both will be needed during the transition period.

Structure of the Finnish IBAN

IBAN is formed of a Finnish account number by adding the ISO country code (FI) for Finland and two check digits in front of it. The Finnish IBAN is always 18 characters long. IBANs are always supplied by the bank, ie you cannot form it on your own. You can find your Nordea account number in IBAN format on your account statement or in Netbank.
