The Nordea Codes app allows you to authenticate your identity and confirm transactions via our Netbank, Mobile Bank and Nordea 24/7. It also enables secure payment of online purchases and identification in services offered by other service providers. The app is available to both personal and corporate customers. The Nordea Codes app can be downloaded to iPhones, Android phones and Windows Phones and to Android tablets and iPads from the relevant app stores.

What is the Nordea Codes app?

Nordea Codes is a downloadable app for mobile devices which you can use to identify yourself and confirm transactions in our Netbank, Mobile Bank or by contacting Nordea Customer Service. The app also enables secure online purchases and user identification in services offered by outside service providers such as Kela.

How does it work?

When you enter your personal PIN in the code app, it will calculate changing transaction-specific codes for you. If your mobile device has a data connection, the app will send the code to Nordea in an encrypted network on your behalf. Without a data connection, the app will show the code on the mobile device's display, where you can copy it to the service you want to use.

The code app will eventually replace paper code cards. Never give your access codes to another person. Memorise your user ID and the PIN code to Nordea Codes. Keep your user ID separate from your code card and code app.

Benefits of the code app

The code app is easy to use and goes wherever you go on your mobile device. You no longer need to carry a separate code card or cross out codes.

The app enables easy banking via Netbank, Mobile Bank and Nordea Customer Service. The Nordea Codes app can also be used for easy identity authentication in online services provided by, for example, Kela, as well as for online purchases.

On what devices does the code app work?

The code app operates on iPhones, Android phones and Windows Phones as well as on iPads and Android tablets

  • Windows Phone 8 or newer

Always ensure security

The app's security is based on four factors: PIN code, mobile device, access codes and connection. Always make sure that the device you use is passcode-protected. Before confirming any transaction, always check to make sure the transaction has been carried out by you.

PIN code

  • Only you know your PIN code.
  • The code is both application and device-specific.
  • If you enter an incorrect PIN code five times in a row, the app will be locked for 24 hours.
  • The PIN code will not be saved on the mobile device. The PIN code will be erased from the device memory as soon as the app has finished calculating one-time codes.

Mobile devices

  • The code app is tied to the device. If someone tries to copy the app to another device, the copied version will not work.
  • Other apps on the mobile device cannot access the code app's information.
  • If the device's data security is broken, the code app's information will be automatically deleted.

Access codes

  • The code app is tied to the device. If someone tries to copy the app to another device, the copied version will not work.
  • Other apps on the mobile device cannot access the code app's information.
  • If the device's data security is broken, the code app's information will be automatically deleted.

Connection

  • The connection between the code app and Nordea is SSL/TLS encrypted.
Implementation

How can I activate the app in Netbank?

  1. Download the Nordea Codes app from your mobile device's app store.
  2. When you have downloaded the app, begin the take into use flow of the code app in Netbank.
  3. After you have confirmed taking the app into use, you will find short instructions on how to take the app into use and the temporary PIN code needed to activate the app.
  4. You can now open the Nordea Codes app in your mobile device.

Take into use in Netbank

1. Log into Netbank. Navigate to section "Access codes" under the "Edit Netbank" tab. Click the 'Take Nordea Codes app into use' link.

2. Select a verified phone number to which the app's activation code will be sent. If you don’t have a verified phone number, confirm your number by calling the toll free automatic phone number authentication service at 0800 170 777, from the number you wish to confirm. When calling, you must identify yourself with the code card. You can now continue the activation process by clicking “Take Nordea Codes app into use” link.

Name also the mobile device e.g. Lauras WP to which you are going to install/download the app. This way it will be easy to close the app when necessary. Click Continue.

3. Confirm the taking into use of the code app with a confirmation code from the code card.

4. After the confirmation you will receive the app's activation code to the mobile phone number you have chosen.

Now you will find in Netbank short instructions on how to implement the app and the temporary PIN code needed to activate the app. Leave the Netbank page open and continue to implement the app in your mobile device.

Take into use in your mobile device

1. Open the Nordea Codes app in your mobile device.

2. Select the language in which you want to use the code app. You can change the language in the code app's menu after you have started to use the app.

3. If you have not yet taken the app into use in Netbank, do it now. You will find the instructions in the code app.

If you have already taken the code app into use in Netbank, click Next.

4. Enter the activation code you received in an SMS and click Next. Write the activation code down on paper, if necessary. The activation code is a single-use code.

5. Enter your temporary PIN code shown in Netbank and click Next. The temporary PIN code can be found on the page 'Take into use in brief' in Netbank.

If you have closed Netbank without noticing the temporary PIN code, restart the take into use flow of the app in Netbank. You will receive a new activation code in an SMS and you will see a new temporary PIN code in Netbank.

Note! If you click the Cancel button, you will be transferred to the first activation step. As the activation code is single-use, you will need a new activation code in order to continue.

6. Now create your own personal PIN for the code app. The PIN code is permanent and you can change it after you have finished the take into use flow from the app's menu, if you want to.

When you enter the last digit of the four-digit PIN code, the app will automatically transfer you to step 7.

7. Re-enter the PIN code you have created and click Next.

8. Give a name to your user account, your own name, for example, and click Next.

The name may contain 3 to 12 characters and it cannot contain numbers.

Note! If you click the Cancel button, you will be transferred to the first activation step. As the activation code is single-use, you will need a new activation code in order to continue.

9. The app is ready for use. Read the security instructions and click Continue.

10. The code app is available to you in the same services you now use with the code card. You can now close the app.

Note! Your code card is still valid. Remember to take good care of it. If necessary, you can use the code card alongside the app, if your mobile device is broken or if you have lost it. You can choose the login method in the service you intend to use.

How can I activate the app in Netbank? - corporate customers

  1. Download the Nordea Codes app from your mobile device's app store.
  2. When you have downloaded the app, start the activation process of the code app in Netbank.
  3. When you have confirmed that you will start using the app, you will receive the app's activation code in Netbank's Mail and a temporary PIN code by regular mail within 2–5 days. You will need both codes to activate the Codes app. 
  4. When you have received the letter containing the temporary PIN, you can activate the Codes app in your mobile device.

Take into use in Netbank

1. Log into Netbank and click 'Settings' in the upper right-hand corner. Now select 'Access codes'.

2. Click the 'Activate the Nordea Codes app' link.

3. Name also the mobile device to which you are going to install the app. This way it will be easy to close the app if necessary. For example, the name can be Tom's iPad.

Confirm that you will start using the Codes app with a confirmation code from the code card.

4. After the confirmation, you will receive the app's activation code in Netbank's Mail. You will receive a temporary PIN code by regular mail within 2–5 banking days.

After you have received the temporary PIN code, you can continue to activate the app in your mobile device. You will need both the activation code and the temporary PIN code to activate the app.

1. Select the Code app tab on Netbank's login page. Enter your Netbank user ID and click OK.

2. Netbank creates an action for the code app and waits for confirmation. Open the Codes app on your mobile device.

3. Confirm the login by entering your personal PIN code to the code app.

4. After you have confirmed the action, you will be automatically transferred to Netbank's front page.

1. Select the payments you want to confirm and click Confirm.

2. Netbank sends an action to the code app and waits for a confirmation. Open the Codes app on your mobile device.

3. Confirm the action by entering your personal PIN code to the code app.

4. After you have confirmed the action in the code app, you can view the payment in Netbank as confirmed.

1. You will receive a notification in Netbank if a payment you have made requires an additional confirmation. You can make the additional confirmation through the code app. Start by clicking the Other payments link.

2. You can see the payment details and confirmation box in Netbank. Click Confirm on the payment you want to confirm.

3. Click Confirm. Netbank creates an action to the code app and waits for confirmation.

4. As soon as you start the additional confirmation in Netbank, you will receive an additional confirmation request to the code app. The app requests you to check the payment details. If the payment details are correct, click Continue to confirm. Give the additional confirmation to the payment by entering your personal PIN code to the code app.

5. After you have confirmed the action in the code app, the payment will be shown in Netbank as paid.

How do I use the code app in Mobile Bank?

1. Download Mobile Bank on your device or update the latest version of the app from your device's app store.

2. Select 'Download the Codes app', if you have not yet downloaded the app. You are now transferred directly to the app store where you can download the Codes app. See instructions on how to take the Nordea Codes app into use.

Select 'Skip' if you do not want to download the code app right now. You can download the app later from your mobile device's app store. You can find it by searching for 'Nordea Codes'.

3. Select the Codes app as the login method from the top of Mobile Bank's login page.

Enter your user ID and select 'Login'. You are now automatically transferred to the code app where you can type in your personal PIN code.

4. Enter your personal PIN code in the code app.

5. You are transferred back to Mobile Bank and are now logged in.

Note! If you want to, you can download the code app on several different devices. If you have not downloaded the code app on a device you use to log into Mobile Bank, you must choose the alternative 'Use another device' in connection with the login.

Mobile Bank will remember your choice and in the future it will automatically expect you to use the other device. If you later want to download the code app on your device, click ‘Download the Codes app' and you will be automatically transferred to your app store where you can download the code app.

Confirmation of payments and changing of card settings, when you have logged in with the code app

1. When you confirm payments, read your Mail or make changes to the card settings, you must identify yourself with the code card or the code app for security reasons.

How do I use the code app when contacting Nordea Customer Service?

1. Call Nordea Customer Service.

2. We will ask you to give your Netbank user ID. If you use both the code card and the code app, we ask you to choose the identification method you want to use.

When you selected the code app as identification method, we will ask you to open the code app on your mobile device and enter your PIN code.

You can open the code app by pressing the notification on the top of the screen.

If you have disabled notifications from the code app in your mobile device's settings, you get the call in the background by pressing the home button. Open then the Nordea Codes app.

3. Enter your personal PIN code in the code app.

4. Return to the phone call. Identification is now ready and your call will be connected to Nordea Customer Service.

2. We will ask you to give your Netbank user ID. If you use both the code card and the code app, we ask you to choose the identification method you want to use.

If you have chosen the code app in offline mode as the identification method, we ask you to open the code app in your mobile device. You can place the call in the background by pressing the home button.

3. Choose "Go offline".

5. Enter your personal PIN code in the code app and press Next.

6. You will see a nine-digit response code, which we recommend you write down. Click Continue.

7. The code app will return to the start screen. Resume the call.

8. Enter the nine-digit response code you received into the phone.

A recording will tell you that the authentication was successful. You will be connected to Nordea Customer Service.
