Payments abroad

Payment order

The payment order is the easiest way to send foreign currency payments abroad or to receive foreign currency payments from abroad. As a method of payment the payment order is based on confidence between the buyer and the seller.

A payment order is fast, safe and convenient. Banks see to it that the order reaches its destination based on the instructions you have given. You may decide whether you or the beneficiary pays the costs of the payment order. You should however note that a payment order is an unconditional and irrevocable method of payment.

You can send a payment order in any convertible currency electronically from your company's data systems, from Netbank or from Nordea's branches.

When does the payment reach the beneficiary?

Payment type, currency, the correctness of the beneficiary's bank information as well as country and bank-specific practices are all factors that determine when the payment reaches the beneficiary.

If the beneficiary maintains an account at a Nordea unit, the payment will always be available on the beneficiary's account on the following banking day.

Electronic foreign currency payments

If your company makes more than five (5) cross-border payments in a month, it pays off to transmit the payments to Nordea electronically. Our corporate netbank is an excellent tool for this purpose.

With corporate netbank you can

  • streamline the processing of your outgoing foreign currency payments
  • save money as payments are transmitted directly from your company's ledger system and you receive electronic feedback on the payments
  • save money in service fees

Come and make an agreement on electronic foreign currency payments at a Nordea branch. See the service description of Electronic foreign currency payments for more information.
